Frequently Asked Questions

GENERAL

What is jive?

jive is a carpooling app that will be available soon. The users are called drivers and the passengers are called jivers. Drivers can easily find jivers who are looking for a ride in the same direction. For each jiver they take along, they get a reimbursment. In return, jivers easily find a ride that will get them to their destination cheaply and comfortably.

Not only does jiving reduce the costs of driving a car, there will also be fewer traffic jams and we ensure CO2-neutral rides by planting trees for each jive.

Where is the app active?

jive is currently active in Flanders and Brussels.

Why do I only see a few destinations and events?

jive is currently the testing phase, therefore we currently only work with specific companies and organizers. Over time, more destinations will be added and users will also be able to add destinations themselves.

What is the Service Fee?

The service fee covers the costs of planting trees. This way, a journey that is driven via jive is completely CO2 neutral. It also includes the organizational, administrative and technical costs of the app.

What are Coins?

Coins are a means of payment in the app. These can be used to pay for a ride or to choose rewards in the Reward Shop. We also use coins for refunds when a jiver cancels the ride more than 24 hours in advance. These coins can be used on the next ride and there will also be a reward store in the future.

How does the scoring system work?

After each ride, the jiver and driver can assess each other by means of a score. Our algorithm takes this score into account when making the matches for a ride. Users with a bad rating will no longer be able to use the app.

Where are the trees planted?

There is collaboration with various organizations. These organizations plant trees in Belgium and / or developing countries. Every year, a bailiff is asked to check jive's administration. In this way, users can be sure that their journeys are compensated and are therefore CO2 neutral.

How can I contact jive?

For questions, comments or suggestions, please contact info@jivetogether.be

Who are the initiators of jive?

jive was founded by a team of enthusiastic young people who care deeply about the environment. They are financially supported by a Flemish family

Why was jive founded?

jive's founders found that there are more cars on the road than necessary. jive wants to reduce the number of cars on the road by using every moving car efficiently. This is not only good for the environment, but will also greatly reduce traffic jams.

JIVE & CORONA

Why should you jive in times of Corona?

Jiving during the corona crisis is strongly recommended. With a jive ride, the chance of infection is much lower than with the use of other means of transport. Below you can read the specific security measures that apply to all users.

Because each driver only takes 1 jiver per trip, the number of people you come into contact with is significantly lower than a journey by public transport.Moreover, each driver will preferably always bring the same person or limit himself to a select group. This way you know in advance who you are driving with and you have a better view of his / her attitude towards the corona measures. We observe the measures concerning social distancing by, among other things, having the jiver on the right in the back seat.

Is jiving allowed in times of Corona?

Carpooling to work is allowed. There is a restriction on the number of people who can drive with someone. This number depends on the size of the car. To ensure that all jive rides are legal, we are introducing a limitation of 1 jiver per ride.

What rules do I have to adhere to, to keep the ride as safe as possible?

The following rules apply at least as long as the government measures around Covid-19 are in force:

  • - Bring a maximum of 1 jiver;

  • - Mandatory hygiene measures: keep hand gel in the car, wear a mouth mask, forbidden to touch each other, ...

  • - The jiver must always be on the right-hand side of the rear seat. If there are several rows of seats, the jiver will be in the back row;

  • - If possible, air the car during or after the ride;

  • - The jiver and driver should exit on the right and left side respectively;

  • - The driver preferably always takes the same person with him; or a select group of colleagues

What should I do if I am feeling sick?

If you are ill, it is recommended to contact a doctor as soon as possible. If you are told that you are (probably) infected with COVID-19, we ask you to contact us via info@jivetogether.be. This way we can take the right actions to contact the people with whom you have shared a car.

Can I still jive after the Corona crisis?

jive does everything it can to get all users to their destination in a safe way. We are closely monitoring government communications and will evaluate our measures in consultation with relevant experts at the appropriate time.

INSURANCES

Is the trip insured via jive?

Both jiver (passenger) and driver remain insured for a carpool ride. So nothing changes compared to a normal trip. The Liability Insurance compensates physical and material damage to third parties and carpoolers.

What impact will carpooling have on my insurance?

In general, carpooling has no impact on your insurance. Your jiver, your car and yourself are covered by the same insurance as if you were not taking a jiver with you.

What insurance do I need to carpool?

Even if you do not carpool, it is mandatory as a driver to have an active Liability Insurance. This is also the case if you carpool. In short, you do not need to take out extra insurances to jive.

More details:

In carpooling, 4 parties are important, these are discussed here together with the insurance that applies to it:

  • - Driver:The damage to the other party is always covered by the compulsory liability insurance.The medical costs in the event of an accident at fault are not covered by the civil liability insurance. Some drivers take out separate insurance for this, but this is not mandatory.

  • - Jiver: n this context, a jiver is regarded as a third party and is always co-insured under the liability insurance. Even if, for whatever reason, the jiver were to take over the steering wheel from the driver and an accident occurs, it is also covered by the driver's liability insurance. In principle, anyone with a valid driver's license can drive. Please note: for young drivers (< 30 years), an additional franchise may apply in the event of a faulty claim. If the jiver causes damage to the car and it is liable for this, this is covered by the jiver's family insurance.

  • - Car: Damage to the car is only covered by the liability insurance if a third party is liable for it. Own damage is not covered by the liability insurance. Only if the driver has taken out Omnium insurance, this own damage is covered by the insurance.

  • - Third parties: Third party damage is covered by the driver's mandatory liability insurance.
